Brenna's Doctor Visit.....

We started out Thursday headed to Jackman, ME. Brenna has been very tired and run down during times over the past 2 months. When she feels this way, her color is pale gray, she sleeps most of the time, and she doesn't eat. We thought it could be due to an iron deficiency and we wanted to get her a complete physical. Jackman is about 2 1/2 hours away from Quebec City. The reason for the trip is that we could not find a doctor who wanted to see Brenna in Quebec City thus the reason for the long drive to Jackman. (No problem!....if you ever find yourself lost, I mean totally lost and in the town of Jackman, stop by Bishop's General Store and get a huge Philly Cheese Steak for $5.99!...it's the best!)

We had a good bit of snow fall the two days prior and the drive was beautiful! We saw so many deer along the way! A hunter's paradise! As we entered into Jackman, we saw these two deer at this house. They were actually feeding at his garage door!

On the way, we had to stop to let the pregnant lady make a pit stop! So we loaded up on a couple of A & W rootbeers! (Are you jealous Grandpa?!)

From there we entered in Jackman which is a very, very small town with no fast food shops and no major motel/grocery chains. There is one little grocery store and a couple of mom-n-pop restaurants. We stopped at Dr. Doyle's office which is part of the small one room "emergency" room, the tiny nursing home, and the town clinic. Dr. Doyle is the doctor for all of them.....and her nurse serves double duty as the school nurse as well.

We took Brenna for her physical and Dr. Doyle suggested that we draw some blood and run some tests for possible problems with diabetes, thyroid, and iron. They also are going to test for something else but I do not know what it is.....

We talked with Brenna the night before and talked about what exactly will happen if the doctor has to draw blood. We talked about the tourniquette (I think that is how it is spelled?), the test tubes, the needles, etc. She just sat there and looked at the needle and didn't even flinch when the needle went into her arm!!! The nurses were so proud that they gave her handfuls of stickers!

We waited for 20 more minutes for the results of two of the tests. She has no iron nor diabetes problems! We praise the Lord for that! We will not know about the thyroid until next week because that test needs to be sent away. Thank you to all of you who prayed for her. Please be in prayer about the thyroid test.

My $5 Challenge.....

O.K....I let my wonderful wife talk me into making and posting this $5 challenge. (The things we do for our wives!)

So here it is the "low-down" to the $5 Challenge.......We were challenged to go to the dollar store (any one) and purchase no more than 5 items of a $1 or less. These items are then used to make a "deco" or decoration with the theme of "Spring". We can use glue, paper, paint, or other supplies that we have at home to make/put together the items that we purchased. Then we are to post a tutorial on our blog with the instructions of how to make it.

So here we go! These are my four items from Dollar-rama here in Quebec City.
1. Little wreath with teal colored balls/eggs.
2. Little ceramic candle dish. (Remember, these dishes are 3/$1.....just remember to take all three when you buy them...I only grabbed one and forgot the other two!)
3. Little pack of flowers from the scrapbook section.
4. Little pack of metal butterflies from the scrapbook section.
All of these items come in different colors.
(My fifth item I kinda took from our bedroom......a used candle my wife had, I could have bought one at the store for a dollar but I wanted to save the money!)

First step is to hotglue the wreath to the candle dish. (Remember! The hot glue does burn flesh!...yes I tried it...)

Next you will glue the little flowers around the wreath with hot glue and then glue the butterflies around the wreath as well.

For the final product, take your wife's candle from the bedroom and place it in the middle of the dish/"deco". If you then present her with the gift and say, "This is for you." , she won't be mad that you took her candle.

Nobody Told Me I Needed Two Messages.....

Pastor Coté of a nearby church was in the hospital this week with some heart complications. He needed someone to fill the pulpit in his absence after having a heart CATH. I said that I would gladly fill in and I was told that I just needed one message for Sunday morning.

After arriving at the church just a few minutes before the services started, I was asked by one of the men if I was ready to preach two messages. YIKES!!!! I told him that I had left my english bible with all of my notes back at home and brought just my french Bible with only the notes for my one message. He looked over at Josh who had come with me and said, "Joshua has his english bible, maybe you can use his."

So, I took Joshua's Bible and found some of his notes from a message that I had preached from who knows how long ago. I preached the first of my two messages using his notes! When I was done preaching, people went up to Josh and told him how wonderful his notes were!........I thought I preached the message.......

Sunday:
We had a great day yesterday. We drove the 1 hour 15 min drive to Trois Rivieres. (Have I ever mentioned that I hate time-change Sunday....you know, the one you lose an hour of sleep) We had a wonderful service as Pastor Hamby was in North Carolina. Kami played the piano and I preached the AM service. We went to one of the church families' house to eat lunch. MMmmmm.....Montreal seasoned Steaks and Mashed Potatoes!!!! Then we went back to the same family's house for supper before the services that evening. MMMMmmmmm.....authentic chinese soup! ...I mean the real stuff, it was so good. For the PM service I preached in French. Everyone was so encouraging and said that they could understand every word. Then we made the trip back home and didn't waste any time getting to bed...we were tired!

Beth's Birthday:
I have a 12 year-old daughter!.....Time does seem to fly! We brought some of Beth's presents to Trois Rivieres for her to open and even brought along a cake to celebrate her birthday. Saturday evening, we wanted to do something special for her birthday so we took her to a used bookstore and then we went to Le Manoir du Spaghetti for dinner. Madame Claire, our professor, gave us 2 coupons that we used. Each coupon was for a 2 For 1 meal. So basically we got two meals for free......trust me, I would have hated to see what the price would have been without the coupons! Beth loves Spaghetti and this was the second restaurant that we have been to since being here for 10 months. (We are not counting Burger King of course!) We gave her a new book for her birthday and she had it read by the time we reached Trois Rivieres! She is a bookworm....

Upcoming Details:
- Please do not forget to pray for Brenna's upcoming Doctor's appointment next week.
- Kami still has 10 weeks left in her pregnancy. Please pray for her, the baby and the finances.
- We will having a young lady from one of the area churches to come to our house starting next Tuesday to help us in French. She has volunteered to come over and speak French with all of our family to help us practice and hear French.
- I will be preaching the Mission's Emphasis Sunday at the end of April and teaching Sunday school. The catch is that it must be all in French!
- Continue to pray for our support level to increase. We have had many verbal committments from churches and we are still waiting for their committments to become reality. We still need some more support before we can leave for St. Barths after we finish Language school.
